FDA Warns of Greater Muscle Risk From Zocor

FDA reports higher muscle and kidney damage risk from ingredient in Zocor, Vytorin and Simcor

The Food and Drug Administration said Friday the highest available dose of Zocor [dat is 80 mg], a component in cholesterol drugs, can cause muscle damage as well as severe and potentially lethal kidney damage.

The side effects include rhabdomyolysis, a form of muscle damage that can lead to kidney damage or failure, and death.

The FDA said the warning is based on clinical trials, studies, reports of side effects by users and prescription data.

je zou denken dat ze daar na bijna 30 jaar na dato wel eerder achter zouden zijn gekomen. Weet dat we het in 1987 al voorschreven in de huisartsenpraktijk.
Is er ook zo’n verhaal over Lipitor 40mg?

Het is al aardig lang bekend dat statinen problemen met spieren (en nieren) kunnen geven. Hoe hoger de dosis, hoe meer de bijwerkingen merkbaar worden.
Alleen zijn er nog steeds artsen die dat niet weten of blijven ontkennen.
